Poonam + Vijay reached out to us about capturing their anniversary photos at a black sand beach in Maui, also known as Waianapanapa State Park. Poonam mentioned how important it was for her and Vijay to finally have amazing photos of them. You see, Poonam + Vijay had a traditional Indian wedding when they got married. Poonam wished they had more of non-traditional and candid photos rather than the posed photos they had at their wedding.
Ryan + I knew we wanted to make these photo dreams come true for these two. When Poonam mentioned that wanted these shots at a black sand beach, we knew that Waianapanapa would be the perfect beach in Maui. Honestly, this would be such a stunning location for a Hawaii elopement! JUST SAYIN’! 🙂 We had such a blast with Poonam + Vijay. We loved finding out how they first met and who made the first move. It was actually Poonam who was the first one to strike up a conversation with Vijay because she said he was so shy. After she opened up the conversation, Poonam + Vijay hit off and realized how well they got along. After that, it was history. While Poonam loves to clouds and rain in Oregon, Vijay prefers brighter skies and warmer temperatures.
We think the choice to do a photoshoot at this black sand beach in Maui was the perfect compromise for the both of them. This place gives off moody vibes before and at sunrise, and then we had the sun come out for the end of our session. We had such a blast with these two, and we still can’t believe they woke up around 2 am to make sure they made it to Hana for sunrise. These two were so incredible. We can’t wait for our next elopement here! Check out more from their sunrise black sand beach shoot below!
