Adventure Elopement Session with Leslie + Jay in Waimea Canyon, Hawaii
From the moment we spoke with Leslie + Jay, we knew the perfect spot for their Kauai elopement would be in Waimea Canyon. Originally from Texas, these two love the outdoors and being outside, especially in the mountains. When Leslie + Jay inquired with us, they were certain on two things: being married in the mountains and that they wanted a Christian minister for their ceremony. Other than that, they left everything else up to our expertise. We were beyond stoked that this laid-back bride was so confident with us and our ability to plan out the elopement of her dreams.
The day of the actual elopement, Waimea Canyon was totally socked in. I mean completely whited out. While initially, all of us were a little disappointed that you couldn’t see into the valley below, we were all set on making this the best day of Leslie + Jay’s dreams. We found an amazing spot for their first look out on the cliff surrounded by the white clouds and misty, light rain. It honestly felt like we were up in heaven, and with nothing but the sound of the rushing water below us, it was such a peaceful place to have Leslie see Jay for the first time.
After their first look, we drove further down into the Canyon to see if the clouds had let up. We found a spot where it wasn’t completely socked in, and decided that it was the perfect place for their ceremony. As the minister was leading Jay + Leslie in the ceremony, the clouds begin to lift and the valley cleared up. It was so beautiful to see the clouds completely lift as they recited their hand-written vows to one another.
Before sunset, we made it to our next location for their bridal session. It rained a little bit as we got there, so we waited under the trees until it let up. Then, we made our way up to the cliffs for sunset and absolutely no one was around us. The rain must’ve scared everyone away. As we finished our bridal session, we decided to shoot for sunrise at yet another location to capture the best lighting possible and hopefully escaped the rain for some photos.
When we planned our sunrise session, we all decided to meet at the location since Leslie + Jay were staying further than we were. At 4:30am, Leslie told us that they had just got a flat tire and they were working on getting it fixed. Immediately, Ryan + I knew we were going to pick them up. All we knew was that we didn’t want them to miss out on the sunrise because the weather was looking so perfect for their morning session.
Thankfully, we made to our location just in time for sunrise and had the most incredible and clear weather. Leslie + Jay were such an amazing couple to work with and totally trusted us in all of the decisions we helped them make for their Kauai elopement. We are so incredible happy for these two and cannot wait to see them thrive in life as a married couple.
